I am all for holding companies accountable, but this is a problem with people, not the company. The reason these items are found on beaches is that people don’t dispose of them properly. Ever go to an Official Corona Extra Beer Helping Me Survive Quarantine Shirt. People are pigs. I literally can’t believe that its 2020 and people in the US still have no waste separation in their home. It’s not a lot to ask and it saves recycling companies a lot of time and money. You cant shift the blame of this on a few people, everyone needs to work together. Almost everything is plastic and there is no way it is 90 percent Coke and Pepsi when literally millions of companies use single-use plastics that end up in landfills the rivers and the oceans.

I don’t understand why more jurisdictions don’t have a bottle deposit. I pay 10 cents per bottle, 5 cents per can when I buy a beverage. You take your bottles to a bottle depot when you have several bags worth and you get your deposit back in cash. People don’t throw them into the garbage because you’re just throwing money away. We used to have an Official Corona Extra Beer Helping Me Survive Quarantine Shirt. Put a deposit on the glass when purchased and when folks returned it they got it back… If they just tossed the bottle someone else was able to collect and return it… But for some damn reason, we went away from this model.

You can buy fresh, with reusable bags. And buy refillable 5-gallon water drums etc. But you don’t. You use what’s easy and convenient. It’s way harder to change the manufacturing process, the molds, the Official Corona Extra Beer Helping Me Survive Quarantine Shirt. They won’t change until the people do. So keep complaining and using plastic at the same time, I can guarantee you no manufacturer cares. There’s a good NPR podcast out there that tells the story of the recycling program’s history and how manufacturers hired advertising agencies to create the message that recycling responsibility falls on the consumer over the industry. That we aren’t recycling the proper way, and to antagonize each other rather than focus on the problem of disposable manufacturing.
