Nice Sunflower Sweden Flag Shirt

I am really into Gator history, and this isn’t a Nice Sunflower Sweden Flag Shirt. 99% of UF students would not have heard of this trophy. I think its probably because it’s presented by a 3rd party club and not by the schools themselves. I personally really like trophies and think that this one is cool. Yeah, it must be the 3rd party thing. But it’s so unique looking and we don’t have a real trophy for this game to begin with, so I’m surprised this one never caught on. But then again, the UF/FSU rivalry didn’t even really have a name until like 10ish years ago when a sponsor signed on to the game and came up with “The Sunshine Showdown”. I’m glad that name stuck though. It’s a good one.

I think part of it is that our rivalry is “younger” than the Nice Sunflower Sweden Flag Shirt. We first met in 1958, whereas Clean Old Fashioned Hate, The Big Game, Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, and the Iron Bowl have all been around since before 1900. I think UF-FSU is an amazing rivalry and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else, but I think we just need more volume of games for it to get venerable names and trophies. I think the ’90s with Bowden-Spurrier really elevated our rivalry ahead of schedule. If it wasn’t for Bowden, Florida would probably be excited primarily for the Cocktail party (a 1915 rivalry).
