I myself struggle with a lot of words, and let’s not talk about words that differ between french and Spanish even though they come from the same Latin word, like la Leche and le lait! I think when I answered your comment, which I don’t really remember in the middle of the others, I was giving examples of names and their etymologies as you said they were masculine or feminine “because” of their endings. My answer was based more on the etymology of the words. Why countries are le ou la? Not how can you guess their grammatical group, which it seems was what you were talking about.
